Here we have a cotton Christening gown from what I believe the Victorian times, could be earlier.
Compared to some examples it is quite plain with just a small amount of embroidery at the front of the bodice and a narrow band at the edge of the sleeves.
The neck and waist are tied with a small ribbon/cord. The waist has tiny pleats which are hand sewn.
The bottom of the skirt has a plain panel running round it, with a small width of lace at the bottom.
At the back of the dress where the dress opens there has been some repair work - the fabric appears to have ripped for about 20cm, but this has been cobbled back together. With the folds in the skirt you would not notice. (see picture)
Also at the back just above the waist on each side of the opening, there is a 2.5cm smocking style decoration each side.
*Please note- Sold as a collectors piece or for a doll only*
This antique garment does not conform to modern safety standards.
I would suggest this dress is either displayed as is, or placed on a doll and displayed.
Measurements:
from arm pit to arm pit (flat) 21cm
6cm sleeve length
skirt length from bottom of bodice 83cm.
Skirt width at bottom (flat) 96cm.
Please note all my items are vintage and therefore some may show signs of aging; I will always try to show this in the pictures.
If you are purchasing from outside the UK, please note you may have additional customs fees to pay.
